MailFrontier releases ''Field Guide to Phishing''
November 02, 2005
Focused on the techniques employed by email fraudsters, the guide includes visual and descriptive explanations of the eight most common types of phish found today, as well as tips for email users to avoid falling victim to attack.
For example, the "Angler phish," one that lurks in deep waters utilizing a blue light it dangles in front of itself as bait to devour its prey, will typically announce that an email recipient is the winner of some sort of contest and then ask the recipient to provide sensitive personal information to claim the winnings. Email users should beware of the false bait of the Angler phish. The Field Guide to Phishing also provides real-life email samples of the eight types of phish identified.
The MailFrontier Field Guide to Phishing builds on the success of previous MailFrontier phishing education resources, such as the MailFrontier Phishing IQ Test.
